Well, I'm really glad that I went out yesterday, because today has been basically a wall of white Hell. We woke up to another 15cm on the ground, and a snow day for the kids. An angel neighbour came by with his snowblower early on, but watching him out the window, I could see that it was an exercise in futility, and even he realized it, gazing up at the sky in defeat more than a few times as the gusts and eddies of snow came down as if the gods were hurling it.
At some points during the day, I could not see out the window because the snow was so intense, as this video attests. It's not blurry at the beginning...that's the actual wall of white outside the window.
It got bad enough that highways were closed and plows were called off the road. As I write this at 16:15, night is beginning to fall, and the snow's still coming. It's also become even more windy, and we've had a few flickers of the lights, heralding yet another game of Hydro Roulette. I can see a large pine branch leaning heavily on one of the hydro wires along the road; multiply that by thousands of analogous situations across the area and it's only a matter of time before the lights go off, and with that the central heating and the well pump.
The dogs still wanted to go out (Mira, the good old Brown Dog, would have taken one look outside and said f--k that and found a cosy bed to curl up in, but not Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum here) so we did a couple of circuits of the village. That's as much outside as we're doing today.
In the meantime, I managed to get some photos dumped from the memory card and edit them, so at least there's that. These might work for next year's Christmas card :
