Snowtistics

We've all been saying that it seems to have been a very snowy winter, and the statistics are now available to corroborate it.

In an average winter, this area gets a snowfall of 340 centimetres/134 inches/11 feet.

So far, we have had 375 centimetres/148 inches/12 and a half feet.

Normally, at this point in the winter, we should have had 281 centimetres/111 inches/9 and a half feet.

On average, we can expect 40-80 more centimetres/16 to 32 inches before this winter is done.

The record is 2007-2008, which saw 525 centimetres/205 inches/17 feet of snow. We may not reach that, but we're certainly flush with the white stuff.

This is a friend's house here in the village; photo taken yesterday.

We seem to have had less than usual. I'm not sure about the statistics, I think slightly behind schedule, but plenty of time to catch up. The blue sky and snow have created a winter scene worth framing though.

That is lots and lots of white stuff. I know Machiasport has around 6-7 feet, but 11, yikes. I do know a bit about drifts like that though, we had 168 inches of snow my first year in Van Buren, Maine. I was 22 with invincible youth and managed to take it in stride, but now, that would be a struggle.

Does saying it looks beautiful provide any comfort? :-)

The snow does look beautiful! Well for those of us who do not have to live with the white stuff! That is an incredible amount of snow! Hopefully spring is around the corner?

Wow! That's just way too much snow!
