Breaking the silence...with news

February 16, 2020

Hi

Well that's a start at least.

It's been a long time, and I have received many messages and even handwritten missives asking after my health and wondering where I went to.

There's no short or easy answer. I think in retrospect the whole kickstarter campaign just took me way out of my depth in terms of social interaction, and I sorely needed a breather after it was all over.

At the same time, I took on a new client with my ''real'' job, and work intensified greatly. This was intended to be temporary, but that was September, and things have not abated since, and I have been working 7 days a week, many hours a day/night, just to try to keep up. This is the reality of being a sole proprietor and a work-from-homer, and I know that's what I signed up for and I would not trade it for the world. I love the freedom of being answerable only to myself, yet I realize that my boss is one of the hardest-driving taskmasters, virtually impossible to please. Since November, I have had one single day, weekends and holidays included, where I did not work. That was Christmas.

Simply put, I just have not had the time or the energy for social interaction, and what little free time I have had, I realized that it needed to be invested in me and only me. Selfishness in the name of sanity, if you will.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern and love. I hope that you understand, and I am sorry for being so silent and unresponsive.

And the final scrap of sanity officially went out the window this weekend. Against all better judgement, we have adopted a one-year old yellow Lab who goes by the name of Casey. Casey had a bit of a rough beginning, but at 6 months old she was rescued by an amazing, caring lady, who got her out of a bad situation but also realized that a young Lab needed human and ideally canine company throughout the day. So here we are, flying by the seat of our pants and figuring it out as we go along. We have always said that Arwen will be inconsolable when Soleil goes, and the plan was certainly to get another dog when that horrible day does inevitably arrive, but perhaps to mitigate the shock and ease the transition, it might be an idea to acquire said ''replacement'' sooner rather than later. That's the logic, at any rate.

On the anniversary of my dad's passing, the final thing that I looked at that evening was a facebook share (I do confess to still lurking on social media, even if I have not been posting) about Casey needing a home. I've seen any number of these shares and never acted on them, but something about this one compelled me to reach out.

Wish us luck.

And say hello to Casey.
